GEORGE TOWN: Former Bukit Tambun assemblyman Lai Chew Hock’s wife died after being stabbed at least six times in front of him during a robbery at their home there in Nibong Tebal.

Thor Joo Lee, 46, who was stabbed in the abdomen, chest and shoulder, is said to have bled to death while being rushed to a private hospital on the island by her husband of 23 years.

Lai, 44, said he was in the house when heard his wife driving into the house compound from their petrol kiosk at about 11.20pm on Monday.

“I then went out to the balcony to greet her and that was when I saw a big-built man following her. He then tried to grab her bag but my wife put up a fight.

“I shouted at him to leave my wife alone. He then stabbed my wife before climbing over the gate and jumping on a motorcycle ridden by an accomplice,” he said when met at the Penang Hospital on Tuesday.

Lai said he was in a state of shock and quickly carried his wife into the car and rushed her to the hospital.

“When I reached there about an hour later, the doctor at the emergency ward informed me that she was already dead. She was unconscious but I kept telling her to hold on.”

State police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Wira Ayub Yaacob, who was also at the mortuary, said the case has been classified as murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code, adding that they are now tracking down the duo.
